How You Will Make an ImpactThe Manufacturing Engineer within the
Reading plant Operations team plays a pivotal role in improving
production capabilities. This position is responsible for the
development, maintenance, and comprehensive auditing of
manufacturing and assembly processes, aimed at enhancing both
efficiency and quality. The Manufacturing Engineer will advance the
manufacturing operations at Reading Truck by designing, specifying,
evaluating, and implementing processes and equipment that are
safer, more consistent, reliable, and cost-effective in the areas
of fabrication, assembly, and finishing.The Nuts and Bolts
- Develop, design, specify, test and maintain records for
production equipment, tooling, gauges, jigs, and fixtures to
optimize manufacturing process, including safety, quality and
efficiency by studying product requirements and applying knowledge
of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and
materials
- Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work
flow, space requirements, and equipment layout
- A creative thinking, hands on approach to improving
manufacturing processes.
- Project manage assembly and manufacturing projects
- Design and analyze labor and space requirements, product
design, quality requirements, workflow, layout of equipment and
workspace to maximize efficiency, consistency and effectiveness of
manufacturing and assembly operations and projects
- Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to design
processes that produce product within product and process
specifications
- Review and analyze product sketches, designs, models, and
drawings to make recommendations to improve manufacturability;
provide design support for manufacturing projects
- Promote company safety policies and develop technical solutions
to improve operational safety
- Work with maintenance team, and outside contractors to improve
current equipment and processes, improve performance, and minimize
equipment downtime
- Actively participate and provide support in the daily
activities of production teams
- Support and participate in lean initiatives, and develop the
assembly and manufacturing processes to provide customers with
products that meet or exceed customer requirements and drive
continuous safety, quality and productivity improvements
- Train and support operations with trouble shooting and
maintaining of the assembly and manufacturing processes, fixture,
and equipment to reduce downtime and improve efficiency
- Responsible for estimating and executing projects within budget
and on-timeRequired Credentials
- Five (5) years of experience in truck body or other similar
sheet metal fabrication industry is strongly preferred
- Experience with DFM, DFMEA/PFMEA and their applications and
Lean Manufacturing
- A minimum of an Associates (Bachelors degree preferred) in
Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering/Technology
- Skilled in Solid works or 3D modeling software
- Proven hands on shop experience making and implementing process
improvements
- Ability to oversee, guide, and train engineering technicians
and operations personnel
